Here is a checklist of documents required for the French carte de séjour Salarié or Travailleur temporaire application at Prefectures in France.
- If you are on permanent contract “CDI“, you will be issued a “Salarié” resident permit.
- If you are on fixed-term contract “CDD“, you will be issued a temporary worker resident permit known as “Travailleur temporaire “.

General List of Documents
Here is an initial list of documents required for everyone. Additional documents will be required based on some specific cases.
- Valid VLS-TS visa and its online validation confirmation letter from OFII or other resident permits.
- Passport (identity pages, visas, entry and exit stamps)
- Apostilled and translated copy of Birth certificate
- In case of change of family situation, apostilled and translated copy of : marriage certificate, divorce, death, birth, etc.
- Proof of address of less than six months:
- If you are a tenant: electricity bill (or gas, water, landline phone, internet access); or: rental agreement of less than 6 months or rent receipt.
- If you are the owner: ownership document + recent proof of domicile (utility bill)
- If you are hosted by an individual: attestation d’hébergement + recent proof of domicile + copy of the national ID card or resident permit of the host (the resident permit card of the host must indicate the same address).
- Medical certificate and contrat d’intégration républicaine (CIR) signed with the OFII.
- Contrat d’engagement à respecter les principes de la République.
- 3 recent photographs (format 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm – ISO/IEC 19794 – 5: 2005). Use the Photomaton machines.
Note
- You must provide photocopies of all documents.
- Photocopies must be legible, A4 format, without staples and sorted in order. You can use paper clips.
- Foreign language documents must be translated by a sworn translator known as “traducteur assermenté“.
- Original documents can be verified during the Prefecture appointment.
- Tax stamp “Timbre Fiscaux” is required only when the carte de sejour is ready to be collected. For more details, please refer to Timbres Fiscaux: Tax stamp for French resident permits

Additional Documents: Carte de séjour Salarié
Applicable for an employee with a permanent employment contract (CDI). In addition to the above documents, you must submit some more documents based on the following situations.
First Application “Premiere Demande”
For example, VLS-TS Salarié to CdS Salarié or Student / APS Master / CdS RECE to CdS Salarié. You will be issued a resident permit card valid for 1 year.
- Work permit “Autorisation de travail” from the employer.
- Part of the employer’s nominative social declaration concerning you or professional activity certificate “attestation d’activité professionnelle” of the last 12 months available on mesdroitssociaux.gouv.fr
Renewal
If you are employed on a CDI job, you will receive a multi-year resident permit Salarié card valid for 4 years.
- Case: Same Employer
- Same work permit “Autorisation de travail” used earlier.
- Certificate from the employer “Attestation de l’employeur”.
- Part of the employer’s nominative social declaration concerning you or professional activity certificate “attestation d’activité professionnelle” of the last 12 months available on mesdroitssociaux.gouv.fr
- Copy of the last 3 pay slips.
- Case: Changed Employers
- Certificate of the former employer sent to France Travail “Attestation de l’employeur destiné à France Travail”
- Work permit “Autorisation de travail” from the new employer.
Involuntary loss of employment “Termination”
If you are unemployed, and compensated by France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi), you can benefit from a new temporary residence permit valid for 1 year. If at the end of this period you have not found a job, you will receive a new temporary employee residence card. Its duration is equal to that of your unemployment insurance rights.
- Certificate from the employer to France Travail specifying the reason for termination of the employment contract “Attestation de l’employeur destiné à France Travail”.
- Recent certificate from France Travail mentioning the number of days of unemployment benefit remaining “Attestation de France Travail”.
Additional Documents: Carte de séjour Travailleur temporaire
