The official answer from the France Visa website.
Application Summary
Hello, I wanted to share my short-stay visa experience with the readers.
I had invited my parents to visit me this summer and applied for their visas separately under the Short Stay (Family or Private Visit) category.
- Type of visa applied: Short-stay visitor visa
- Duration of your stay: Court séjour (≤ 90 jours) / Short stay (≤ 90 days)
- Why are you making this trip?: Visite familiale ou privée / Family or private visit
- Visa main purpose of stay: Visite familiale / Family visit
- Applied at: VFS Hyderabad
- Applied on: 21st May 2024
- Visa received on: 30th May 2024
- Visa processing time: 8 working days
- My situation: Passeport Talent Famille resident permit
Overview of the Process
I had invited my parents to visit me this summer and applied for their visas separately under the Short Stay (Family or Private visit) category.
- The first step is to get the attestation d’accueil from the Mairie by paying a 30-euro stamp fee. Once you get this, send the original document to India. I sent it via La Poste; it took two weeks to reach and cost me around 18 euros.
- Once the document reaches, book a VFS slot immediately and start preparing your documents.
- Point to be noted: My father is a businessman, and mom is a housewife. My mother is my father’s dependent, so we booked a slot for them together at the VFS so that the documents are sent together and both their applications can be scrutinized by the same visa officer.
List of Documents submitted at VFS office
We submitted all these documents. It may seem like a lot, but after we submitted these documents, the consulate or VFS did not ask for anything extra. VFS might give back some documents but I recommend you submit everything and tell them that these are supporting documents.

I live in an apartment with a surface are of 19 m^2. Would I be able to obtain an attestation d’accueil to host both my parents in France?
Hello Ravi,
The minimum requirement is 11-14m2 per person depending on the city in France. So, the answer is No. You must book a hotel or airbnb.
