My Answer
As per the Décret n° 2021-360 published on 31st Match 2021, the two-year job change limit for people with a valid residence permit in France doesn’t exist anymore. So, you can change your employer at any time in France. Of course, you have to serve the relevant notice period duration applicable.
Should you inform the local Prefecture about change of Employers?
No, there is no official requirement to inform a Prefecture when changing jobs in France. However, there are certain conditions to respect based on your type of residence permit.
Case A: Residence Permit Restriction
- If your residence permit is attached to your current employer, you cannot work with a different employer.
- So, you cannot start a new job until you obtain a new work permit (if applicable) and a relevant residence permit.
- For example, A person with a Passeport Talent Salarié en mission residence permit is attached to the current employer.
- If your new job is satisfying the requirements of your current residence permit, then you don’t have to do anything until it’s time for the renewal. But, it is not applicable for people with a Passeport Talent Salarié en mission.
Case B: Work Permit Restriction
- If your resident permit requires a work permit, every new job contract requires the employer to apply for a new work permit known as autorisation de travail.
- Until this new work permit application is approved, you cannot start on the new job.
- For example: For a person with a Carte de Séjour Salarié or Travailleur Temporaire, a new work permit is mandatory for every new job contract.
- This is required even if you stay with the same employer but sign a completely new contract.
Case C: Salary and Other Restrictions
- The new job must meet all the minimum criteria required by your existing resident permit.
- If not, you must apply for a status change to the relevant resident permit.
- For example: If you have a Passeport Talent Carte Bleue Européenne (EU Blue Card) and will be joining another job with a salary less than 59.4k€, you must change your resident permit to a lower category such as Carte de Séjour Salarié. If the new salary is above the minimum requirement, then you can continue with your current resident permit.

Hi,
I am bit confused after going through the link.
1. If a person have talent passport salarie with around 3.5 yrs of validity, and current contract is terminated by employer then the person dont need other sponsorship from new employer. This previous one will work ?
2. If a person is getting salary below the min required for passport talent (eg 39K per year gross), and he accept it, then will there be any consequences in future ?
Thanks
Hello Sushant,
1. Already explained in the job termination section in https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/03/faq-resident-permit-status-after-job-resignations-and-terminations-in-france/
2. If you have a CdS Passeport Talent and accept new job that pays less than 42,405€ (to be increased soon), then you lose the rights to hold the PT. So, a work permit must be applied and then a status change application to CdS Salarié. Without completing the 2 steps, you cannot start on the new job.
Hi Prasanth,
Thank you for your feedback. Now i am clear with the minimum salary for passport talent.
I have separate query on part time jobs to support my daily living expense such as with Mac D, Carrefour etc (with proper contract) but with very low gross salary around €1300 per month. Unfortunately very less to meet passport talent salary requirements. Am I eligible to do these low paying jobs on my passport Talent : salarie qualifie / enterprise innovation exercise d’une activite salariee or by doing this, will I am going to lose my rights ??
Note: My contract was terminated by company and i holds passport talent visa for 3.5 yrs validity.
Thank you for the information.
Hello Sushant,
It is already explained in “Case C: Salary and Other Restrictions”.

Hello,
A foreigner worker from a country with civil war at his homeland came to work with work permit visa and he got a contract CDI & worked over 18months with the first employer. Now he resigned without checking or understanding the details of work permit that Each new employment contract will require a new work permit. So, a new autorisation is required while changing jobs. He changed department and address as well.
He has his first year temporary residence card “Titre de Séjours” which will be expired in Sep 2025.
And the problem is the new company who is interested to hire him do not wish to do the new work permit process.
Is there any way for him to get a chance to stay here and find a job.
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
Thank you very much for the clear article.
My question is about the new salary requirement for EU blue card.
I just quit my job after 2 years 7 months where I was on a Talent Passport EU Blue Card, valid from March 2023 to February 2027.
Now, I received another job offer. It is in public service Research Institute. Initially, they offered me salary lower than 53,836. Now, they want me to join sooner and so they are ready to increase the salary above 53,836. The person responsible for International Scientific Employment in the Institute sent an email yesterday (Sep 3, 2025) saying that they will give me contract and I can join on 15 September with my present permit.
Now, I know the new decree is already published few days back. I believe they know and are updated.
However, I could not find any appropriate answer to my situation. Will it be a problem if I join this new job without change of permit? Is the law applicable retrospectively?
It is a bit confusing at the moment.
I will appreciate any information or thread regarding this.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards
Ijee
Hello Ijee,
Unfortunately, you are not eligible for a CdS Passeport Talent CBE (EU Blue Card). Please check the detailed explanations and possible options https://prasanthragupathy.com/2023/09/work-resident-permits-after-graduating-in-france/
Is it a researcher job based on an Convention D’accueil or an usual research engineer type job contract?

Hello Prasanth,
My current work permit in France will be expired on June 2027. However, my current assignment will be over by March 2026 and company is asking me to back India in April,2026. I have been here in France since january,2024.
My question is, may I change the job with current work permit? From Case1, what I understood my work permit having restriction but still to check with you if there are any other options are available.
My work permit fall under below category:
PASSEPORT TALENT : SALARIE EN MISSION
EXERCICE D’UNE ACTIVITE SALARIEE
Hello Riyona,
Unfortunately, its not an easy process for people with CdS PT SEM. Its basically meant for people to work in France temporarily and then leave the country when the mission ends. In your case, it will be March 2026.
Detailed explanations in the article above and also on https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/03/faq-resident-permit-status-after-job-resignations-and-terminations-in-france/
