How to avoid a Student Visa Rejection? | Reapplication after a rejection?

Updated on: January 01, 2025 |  By: @rprasanth_kumar |
Analyzing a French student visa rejection involves examining the reasons for the refusal and reviewing the applicant’s specific circumstances. This includes assessing documentation, financial support, educational credentials, accommodation, academic qualifications, etc. to identify deficiencies and improving the chances of the reapplication.

Getting it right the first time is very important. So, This article explains the various aspects to check before submitting a student visa application or a re-application following a rejection.

Did you know? If you are reapplying after a student visa rejection, you don’t have to repeat the Campus France NOC process again for the same intake.

Student Visa Documents checklist for VFS

Here’s a non-exhaustive checklist of documents required for the French student visa application. You can verify your visa application package using the following list.

Questions to avoid a Visa Rejection

Student visa applicants must ask the following questions to themselves before submitting the visa application in VFS office. Analyzing their applications based on these questions might help them to avoid a rejection.

  • Have I submitted a detailed cover letter explaining my motivations to study in France?.
  • Are all my documents authentic and reliable?. No fake documents?.
  • Did I submit a valid Schengen travel health insurance?.
  • Did I submit a valid flight ticket?. Dummy flight tickets must be avoided.
  • Have I submitted the Visa application in time?. For a September intake, have I  submitted application by June/July or in worst case at least by August?.
  • Am I submitting an application in Sept for a Sept intake?.

Course Information

  • Is my college/course certified by RNCP or CGE ?
  • Do I have a decent academic background?.
  • Is the course relevant to my professional experience?.
  • Have I checked with my alumni about previous visa rejections from the same college/course?.
  • Is my course related to national security?. Ex: Aeronautics, Chemical, Nuclear, etc.
  • If yes, Have I interned or worked in any defense related company such as DRDO, HAL, etc ?.

Accommodation

  • Have I submitted a proper accommodation proof?. Is it valid for minimum 6 months or an year?.
  • Is it just a Housing certificate from private agents like LivinFrance, etc or a valid accommodation confirmation letter?.
  • Have I submitted an Airbnb or hotel booking as accommodation proof?.

Finances

  • Have I submitted the college’s final acceptance letter including the fee payment confirmation?
  • Have I submitted proper proof of finances for tuition fees + living expenses of at least 7400€ per year?. Expense statement detailing the finances?.
  • Have I submitted any Fixed deposits (FD) certificate as financial resources instead of cash balance?.
  • If yes, Have I submitted a signed and stamped letter from the bank stating that the FDs are only for the purpose of higher education in France?.
  • Is my scholarship amount sufficient to cover all the expenses?.
  • If No, Have I submitted proof of any additional financial resource?.

Other Topics

  • Any ongoing police complaint or similar things?. Past issues?.
  • Did I apply directly or via an education consultant?.

  1. Hi Sir,
I recently received a visa refusal. I am student who had applied for a course in Quantum Technology. I had previously interned at a defense related company on the same topic.
Can you please guide me on the appeal process?

    1. Hello,
Every year, 100s of students receive visa rejections. So, The only way to appeal is by following the process mentioned in the rejection letter.

Unfortunately, There is no other choice for formal or informal appeals.

You can contact the French Embassy if you want to try something. But to be honest, it may not be helpful based on the previous examples.

  2. My cousin had planned for September 2024, intake. However his visa got rejected.
Now he plans for September 2025 intake and this time he has got admission in a better school.
When he tries to apply on campus france site, it says there is already a previous application.
How do we proceed? Is there an option to cancel the previous NOC since it was for a different school. Hoping to get things done earlier this time.
    Thank you.

    1. Hello Jaya,
Usually, we can delete and/or create a new application. Please contact Campus France for any technical questions about their site.

      Cheers,
      Prasanth

  4. Hi Prasanth, quick context about my visa reapplication.
I was admitted to UPVD for the DUFLE French program starting 1 September 2025. My first visa was refused on 18 August because the purpose of stay looked unclear.
I now have an official extension from the university allowing arrival until 7 October, new accommodation booked from 16 September to 6 October, updated insurance and flight, and a clearer plan.
Goal is to do DUFLE to reach B2, then a Master in Sustainable or Automotive Engineering in France from 2026, targeting schools that require B1 to B2 like INSA Toulouse and Université de Montpellier.
Financials are about 16,000 euros from my savings and my mother’s support with fresh affidavit and statements.
I am also applying on Studapart for a long term lease and can show screenshots.

    1. Hello Sohel,

Sorry, I dont know what to say when you are repeating the same mistakes like very short accommodation, etc mentioned as reasosn for rejection in the above article. Please read the article atleast once completely to avoid another rejection.

      Cheers,
      Prasanth

          All the best.

  6. Hi,

I’m looking for some advice regarding my student visa situation.

I am looking to study an annual French language programme (FLE) for around 9 months at the Institut Catholique de Paris. My goal was to improve my French before applying for an M2 at a specific French business school (which I didn’t think was important to specify in my first motivation letter to Campus France, but now I’m planning to do so). I plan to go back to the UAE and then reapply for the second M2 course.

Unfortunately, my first long-stay student visa application was refused for the reason “The information submitted to justify the purpose and conditions of your planned stay was incomplete and/or unreliable.”, and I’m preparing to reapply and address these concerns. Any advice on how I can improve my application? Some of the aspects I’m going to improve based on your article are:

    – I’m revising my statement of purpose to better explain why I chose France and why the French language course is an important step in my career path and I want to do M2 after this and French fluency is preferred for several French brands in the country I’m applying from (I am an Indian by nationality but I am applying from the UAE since this is my country of residence since birth).
    – Adding round-trip flight ticket proof
    – Accommodation for the whole duration of my stay instead of only 3 months of stay

What else can I improve? Any advice on what the visa officer felt was unreliable would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your help.

    1. Hello Prasitha,

I think you have understood the reasons for your visa rejection. Could have avoided it.

Hope your new visa application is approved.

      Cheers,
      Prasanth

  7. Posting on behalf of my younger brother to seek advice about his re-application strategy for student visa following a refusal last year. In the new application, we want to ensure that it is strong and that there are no obvious weaknesses.
    1. Previous Refusal
Last year, he applied for a student visa to study French at ILCF, but the application was refused. Looking back, we identified several mistakes in the application:
    • Late application: He applied only one month before the course start date.
    • Partial tuition payment: paid only an initial deposit of €1,000.
    • No work experience

    2. Proposed New Plan and Current Profile
For the new application, the plan is as follows:
    • Institution: FLE EDAM Paris, a private language school
    • Program: 10-month intensive French language course, consisting of 40 weeks at 20 hours per week
    • Tuition fees: €6,380, (we plan to pay in full)
    • Target intake: December or January
    • Current employment: He is working as an HR professional at Allegis Group in Bangalore
    • Long-term academic goal: After completing the French course, he plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Strategic Human Resource Management in France

    3. Questions and Concerns
    A. Addressing the Previous Refusal
    1. Would paying the full tuition fees in advance and applying two to three months before the course starts sufficiently address the main weaknesses in the previous application?
    2. Should the previous refusal also be addressed briefly in the SOP, or in a separate explanation letter?

    B. Campus France and Études en France Process
EDAM Paris is a private FLE school and does not appear in the standard Campus France search catalogue.
On the Études en France portal, I found the following option:
“Je suis accepté” → “Une acceptation papier reçue en dehors de l’application Études en France”
    — Is the fact that the institution is not listed in the standard Campus France catalogue likely to create a concern for the visa application?

    C. SOP and Academic Progression
His proposed academic and career progression would be:
HR professional in India → 10-month French language course in Paris → Master’s degree in Strategic Human Resource Management in France
    — Is progression be explained in the SOP, can be viewed as a genuine and logical academic plan?
    — In particular, how can he demonstrate that the French course is necessary for his future studies and career, rather than appearing to be an attempt to obtain a visa through a language course? Any suggestions or tips.

    D. Financial Proof, Accommodation, and Sibling Sponsorship
My elder brother and I both live and work(CDI) in France. We plan to accommodate him and provide full financial sponsorship for his stay and living expenses in France.
    1. Should we provide an Attestation d’Hébergement and an Attestation de Prise en Charge to confirm that we will accommodate and financially sponsor him? What supporting documents should we provide?
    2. What amount of funds should ideally be shown in his personal bank account and in our French bank accounts as sponsors?
    3. Would it strengthen his application if he showed sufficient personal funds in India while also including our accommodation and financial guarantees as additional support?

Based on this profile, are there any other weaknesses, risks, or documents that we should address before submitting the application?
Our main objective is to prepare a well-supported application.
    Any advices ?

    Thank you for your help.

    1. Hello Asif,

In this situation: a better option might be moving to France for pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic Human Resource Management. If the objective is only study French at a private language school, it can be done in India too including at AF.

One of the most important aspects of moving to France based on a French language school is the reputation of the language school. A FLE course from a university in France or Alliance Français will look legitimate than some random private language school. People have misused this option and it happens every year.

Based on what you have explained, I can see some potential issues with his visa application.
      1. Previous visa rejection.
      2. Potential risk of using a French language course simply as a route for moving to France.
      3. Potential risk of job search, working here, etc instead of the language course.
      4. Siblings already living in France.

Proper Accommodation, flight ticket, financial resources, etc are default requirements. Already explained them in the above article and also in my student visa checklist.

      Regards,
      Prasanth
