SMIC: French Minimum Salary increases on 1st November 2024

Updated on: November 07, 2024 |  By: @rprasanth_kumar

On October 1st, during his general policy address to the National Assembly, new French Prime Minister Michel Barnier announced a 2% increase in the minimum wage (SMIC), set to take effect on November 1st, 2024.

  • This adjustment will raise the hourly SMIC from €11.65 to €11.88.
  • The value of the SMIC is automatically updated on the 1st of January of each year, based on inflation and purchasing power.
  • So, this 2% increase in November 2024 is actually in anticipation of the increase usually scheduled for January 2025.
  • It is done by evaluating the inflation observed by 20% of households with the lowest incomes in France. Moreover, each increase of at least 2% in the consumer price index is automatically followed by an increase in the minimum wage in the same proportion.

SMIC: Salaire Minimum Interprofessionnel de Croissance. It is the legal minimum hourly wage, below which an employee cannot be paid in France.

  1. Hello
Your articles is always helpful. I just have small question. If i accept the salary below passport talent minimum requirement and work on passport talent for remaining validity, will there be any consequences in future.
    Thanks

    1. Hello Sushant,
Unfortunately, the new job offer must satisfy the current resident permit requirements. If not, a status change application must be submitted to a different resident permit & it might require a work permit too.

You should check the following articles which have all the relevant explanations https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/09/can-i-change-employers-before-completing-2-years-in-france/

      1. Hello Prashant,

Thank you for sharing this information, have always found your blogs very helpful.

A bit unrelated to this article probably but I have a small query regarding Passeport Talent. I am currently on my CdS validity of 4 years and the job that I changed this year meets the requirement of a Passeport talent even after these new changes. I just wanted to know if there’s any obligation to apply for a Passeport talent? If no, when I apply for renewal will it be for a CdS 10 years or Passeport talent?

        Thank you!

  2. Hello Prashant,

I am in process of RC renewal and I receive the checklist of docs from Prefecture, However I was surprised to see the minimum salary req for Talent passport in the doc shared by prefecture.

Its written 37 310 euros per annum, its quite contradictory isnt it ? Is it for employee for Salary on Mission ?

    Vous remplissez les conditions :
    SALARIÉ QUALIFIÉ
SALARIÉ EN ENTREPRISE INNOVANTE (FRENCH TECH VISA FOR EMPLOYEES)
I cant attach the document here other wise I would have attached that.

    Regards,
    Ashish

    1. Hello Ashish,
37k was the requirement 4-5 years ago. So, it’s an old document & so ignore it.

However, the renewal of PT is done online via ANEF website and not via prefecture.

  3. Hello Prashant,

Exactly, I too suspecting its an old document. But I received the renewal Notifications from ANEF website only and under there notification I received the document Liste_Pj_PasseportTalent_SalarieQualifie, and this I received couple of weeks ago.

  4. hello prasanth

thank you for the article. I have been offered a CDI contract from 08/01/2025 with a gross salary of 44k. This is a bit (700 euros) higher than the anticipated amount for passport talent. Do we need to have a considerable difference or even if the gross amount is 44k should it be fine?

    Thanks
