The highly anticipated high-speed TGV train between Paris and Berlin is finally here! Starting on this Monday, December 16, 2024 a new direct rail service will connect the two capitals, marking a historic milestone in French-German railway cooperation. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting new route, from schedules to fares and its environmental impact.
Paris-Berlin by Train: Schedule and Travel Time
For the first time, Paris and Berlin will be connected directly, city-center to city-center, via this collaboration between SNCF Voyageurs and Deutsche Bahn. The service will use German ICE high-speed trains instead of French TGVs.
- Departure from Paris Gare de l’Est: 9:55 AM, arriving in Berlin at 6:03 PM after a 8-hour, 8-minute journey.
- Departure from Berlin – Hauptbahnhof: 11:54 AM, arriving in Paris at 7:54 PM.
This is a daily service in both directions, perfect for travelers looking for a comfortable and eco-friendly alternative to flying.
“In 8 hours, you can travel from the German to the French capital via Frankfurt South, Karlsruhe and Strasbourg,” Deutsche Bahn said in a post on social media platform X.

- Second Class Ticket: Starting at €59.99.
- First Class Ticket: Starting at €69.99.
However, ticket prices will vary depending on demand. Booking early is your best bet to secure the lowest prices!.
Which Cities Are Served?
In addition to connecting Paris and Berlin, the route also stops at several major European cities:
- In Germany: Frankfurt and Karlsruhe.
- In France: Strasbourg, which will now enjoy its first-ever direct high-speed connection to Berlin.
An Eco-friendly Choice
- A train journey between Paris and Berlin generates only 2 kg of CO₂ per passenger.
- By comparison, the same trip by plane produces a staggering 200 kg of CO₂ per passenger.
This makes it a compelling option for environmentally conscious travelers. This new rail link is a major step toward a more integrated and sustainable European railway network. So, are you ready to hop aboard for Berlin?
