Subject: Application for Dependent Visa to Join My Husband in France

Dear Madam/Sir,

I, XXXXXX *[Dependent Spouse Name]*, an Indian citizen holding passport number XXXXXXXX, and I am submitting my application for a dependent visa to France. The purpose of my travel is to join my husband, XXXXXX *[Host Spouse Name]*, who is currently residing in France under a “Carte de Séjour Pluriannuelle: Passeport Talent” permit.

I have carefully prepared all the required documents and completed the necessary forms as outlined in the visa application requirements. We sincerely desire to be together as a family, and we are fully committed to meeting all legal and financial obligations required by the French authorities.

Thank you very much for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to reunite with my husband in France and to continue building our life together.

Sincerely,
XXXXXX *[Dependent Spouse Name]*

Things to remember

  • Don’t forget to sign the cover Letter.
  • Take all printouts, it’s very expensive to print out and xerox at the VFS office(10 times expensive).
  • There is a locker room but you have to pay the charges, if you are taking a laptop with you.
  • Unless there is a Photo Studio who knows the criteria of the photo for a French visa (like they do it regularly), otherwise take the photo in the VFS Office only.
  • Don’t paste the photo in the form, first validate the photo at VFS and once approved then paste the photo. 2 photos are needed.

Process after reaching France

Depending on your visa category (VLS or VLS-TS), you have to either apply for a resident permit on arrival or just validate your visa online. The following article covers this topic in detail.

Should I validate my long-stay visa or do I have to apply for a residence permit directly?

  1. Thanks. I have two questions
    1. Do we need to fill CERFA for each member? example for separate form for each kid
    2. Is one covering letter suffice for both wife and kids?

    1. Hello Naga,

      1. One application per person but they can be submitted together as a family.
      2. Yes, one cover letter is sufficient for the entire application of your spouse and kids.

      Cheers,
      Prasanth

  2. Hi Prasanth,
    Hope you’re well,
1- I have a passport blue talent Carte de Séjour Pluriannuelle, my concern is my company just recently dismissed everyone for economic reasons, and I’m now applying for my partner to come on Family visa ““Famille accompagnante bénéficiaire passeport talent (Majeur)” and part of the requirements says the Contract of work and I am unable to provide a current “contrat de travail” due to the mentioned reasons, any success with alternatives?

2- When I’m due to renew my residency card the EU blue passport can I still get the 10 years card « résident de longue durée – UE »? have been in france on EU blue card for 4 years and VLS-TS for one. and what if I apply for it with personal income? does it have to be at least the Gross annual pay of at least 1.5 times the average annual gross salary? or can it be less?

    I appreciate your Advice,
    Many thanks

    1. Hello Joe,
      I’m good and you?
      1. Submit the attestation from, France Travail. FYI https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/03/faq-resident-permit-status-after-job-resignations-and-terminations-in-france/

      2. Explained in the article: French PR | Carte de résident de longue durée-UE | 10-year card application process online and offline https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/07/french-pr-carte-de-resident-personal-experience-from-nanterre-prefecture/

      1. Hey Prasanth,
Thank you, I’m not too bad, a little overwhelmed and it’s heavy, thanks for your insights too, very helpful.
        Regarding my questions:
The first one: Do you mean the attestation of situation? what if my CSP/RSA expired?

The second one, I checked the blog thank you but unclear, when I renew to the Carte de résident de longue durée-UE, does my renewal finance part have to meet my previous or expiring EU Blue card income, or it can at least the French minimum wage, SMIC. despite having my EU blue card? I am afraid they return saying your situation changed and you should have maintained a level of income 1.5 the SMIC.

        1. 1. If your chomage rights expired and you haven’t found any job in the country, you will not be able to extend your residence permit anymore. So, you will lose the right to stay in France.

          2. For the 10-year card, the required level of finances are clearly explained in the article shared above. It will not be the same level as a CdS Passeport Talent CBE (EU Blue card).

          Cheers,
          Prasanth

  3. Hello Prasanth,
Do you know the process for applying for french dependent spouse visa for spouse already working in Europe in some other country. So basically my wife wants to move from Netherlands to France on a dependent spouse visa.

    1. Hello Abhishek,

It will be almost the same process. She can submit the application either from Netherlands or India but it will depend on the type of your French residence permit.

      Cheers,
      Prasanth

  4. Hello,

Thanks for the detailed explanation, I have few doubts regarding the same,

    1. To Apply for the dependent Visa for my Wife? is it possible to use ANEF website?
    2. On the below check list of items. Is sworn translation is required during the VISA process?
    Birth certificate (dependant spouse).
Marriage certificate. The official certificate from the registrar office.

    Please let me know,
    Thanks in advance

    1. Hello Sharuk,
      1. ANEF platform is for people in France and a visa can only be applied from outside France. Everything you need is explained in the above article.

      2. Documents in english are good enough for the visa process. But FYI

  5. Hi Prashant, thanks for sharing this post. I had a quick clarification regarding document requirements for the talent passport family visa process for my wife ..

1.Do all documents that we submit need to be translated into French?

2.Specifically, does the marriage certificate need to be translated?

3.After translation, do we also need to get the original marriage certificate apostilled separately, or is the translated copy of the certificate enough for visa purposes?

    1. Hello Rahul,

      1. In India, Visa applications & their supporting docs can be submitted in English.

      2. Not required for the visa but official translation will be required for everything in France.

      3. Here is a complete article about apostille https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/09/apostille-process-of-indian-birth-and-marriage-certificates/ & then translation https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/09/traducteur-assermente-list-of-official-translators-in-france/

      1. Okay thank you so much prasanthfor clarifying. So if i understand correctly, for the vfs process for the talent passport family visa application submission the docs to be submitted can be in english and no need to translate to french and apostile for the visa process but later after reaching france for the administrative processes these docs needs to be translated and apostiled right?

      2. Hi Prashant, thanks again for your guidance.
Just to be fully sure before moving forward — for the Talent Passport Family Visa application in India for my wife, can we submit all the required documents in English and without apostille?
And then later, once in France, we can handle the apostille + sworn French translation for the prefecture and other administrative formalities, right?

  6. Hi Prasanth,
I am planning to apply for the Talent Passport Family Visa. Do you know if the visa processing is done in VFS Kochi branch as I am from Kerala? Also, for the marriage certificate and birth certificate, which type of apostille needs to be done?

    1. Hello Malavika,
Yes, you can submit the visa application in VFS Kochi but the application will be processed at Consulate General of France in Pondichery. FYI https://prasanthragupathy.com/2024/06/vfs-dependent-visa-for-spouse-and-children-of-passport-talent-visa-holders/

  7. Hi Prasanth,
I am filling up the application for a dependent VISA and had a couple of queries.
Query 1: Do I need to fill the address for “25. Quelle sera votre adresse en France pendant votre séjour ?”, if it is the same as that under,   “24. Nom, adresse, courriel et n° téléphone en France de l’employeur / de l’établissement d’accueil / du membre de famille invitant,…etc”.
Query 2: Do I fill in my own information under, “28. Si vous comptez effectuer ce séjour avec des membres de votre famille, veuillez indiquer :” , if I am accompanying her for her first trip or does it pertain to other family members besides me.
Query 3: Do I need to repeat my own information under, “31. Des membres de votre famille résident-ils en France ?” as given under,  “24. Nom, adresse, courriel et n° téléphone en France de l’employeur / de l’établissement d’accueil / du membre de famille invitant,…etc”.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hello Anurag,

Assuming that you have a valid CdS (or visa) Passeport Talent, currently living in France and have all the documents required for inviting your spouse to France,
      1. You can mention same as above or simply repeat the same addresses for lines 24 & 25.
      2. Yes, its about you (her family member living in France) for line 28.
      3. yes, your details in line 38 becasue she will be living with you (If I understood your situation correctly).

      Cheers,
      Prasanth
PS: If my articles and answers are helpful, please leave your feedback on Trustpilot

      1. Thanks a lot Prasanth for the clarification. Yes, I am currently living in France with a valid Passeport Talent CdS and have obtained most of the documents as listed above.

  8. Hello Prashanth,

Thanks for the detailed blog I have question regarding this.

After I receive my Passeport Talent, I would like to invite my wife to join me. Currently, I live with my brother, who rents a large house, and I have an attestation d’hébergement from him confirming that I live there. Financially, I earn 2.5 times the SMIC.

When applying for the dependent visa, would it be acceptable to provide the attestation d’hébergement as proof of accommodation, even though the rental agreement is in my brother’s name? I meet all the other requirements, but I want to make sure this will not cause any risk of rejection.

    Thanks

    1. Hello Majeed,
Attestation d’hébergement means its a free accomodation. So, it will depend on how the visa officer looks at the dependent visa application.

Personally, I wouldn’t do that because it can send a wrong message that someone is hosting you free-of-charge and now you are inviting your spouse to the same accomodation. Submitting a valid rental agreement and rent slips in your name is ideal for inviting your spouse. So, Please make an informed decision. All the best.

      Cheers,
      Prasanth
