New Public Transport Prices in Île-de-France from January 2026 | Paris

From 1st January 2026, public transport prices in Île-de-France rise by 2.3%. Île-de-France Mobilités has been adjusting transport fares over the past three years to cover the costs of network modernization. Network improvements such as RER and metro extensions, new tram lines, and other upgrades—raise operating costs, which affects users. Their 2026 budget voted on 10th december 2025 aligns with the regional fare cap, limiting increases to no more than inflation plus 1%.

Reason for 2026 fare increase

To fund modernization and expansion of Île-de-France transport. Goals: faster, more comfortable, and reliable journeys.

Recent improvements (since 2016):

  • 15 metro, RER, or tram lines created or extended.
  • +1,400 new trains and metros already in service; 400 more planned in next 5 years.
  • Cleaner buses and coaches; aim for 100% clean fleet by 2029.
  • More buses in outer suburbs, better connections to metro/RER.
  • Safety measures: full video surveillance and 3,000 police/agents patrolling.

Upcoming projects:

  • First cable car in Val-de-Marne (C1).
  • New-generation bus line between Corbeil-Essonnes and Viry-Châtillon (Tzen4).
  • Metro Line 18, fully automatic and accessible, from Orly Airport to Versailles-Chantiers.

Impact of inflation:

  • Operating costs rise with inflation.
  • Fare increases limited to inflation + 1% per year until 2031.
  • Companies and local authorities also contribute more each year.

Actual cost of Navigo pass:

  • Real cost: €280.07/month.
  • Subscriber pays €90.80/month; employer, government, and other sources cover the rest.
  • Employees typically pay €45.40/month (50% employer reimbursement) or less.
  • Daily cost after reimbursement: €1.51 and for this price, you can travel anywhere in Île-de-France, 7 days a week, unlimited and on all modes of transport.
